Genesis.
My original Tumblr title was platanos & collard greens, because it was the name of a play about a relationship between an Dominican and an African-American. Their families didn’t get along because Dominicans generally don’t approve of African-Americans as a whole. It has to do with racial politics on the island that are way to complicated for a post. I chose it because I feel strongly about my ethnicity; I’m not some “Spanish” kid. FYI, America: Just because we speak Spanish, doesn’t make us Spanish. It’s like saying that just because you speak English, you’re British. No, I’m Hispanic - the word for a Spanish-speaker of Central American, Caribbean, or South American origin. As for race, I’m white and black - like a huge majority of Dominicans. My white family is Dutch and Spanish (as in, from Spain, thanks), and my African family is French. platanos & collard greens was a perfect was of subtly saying “I’m not African-American, but I’m black and I’m proud.”
My new, longer title (an internal cataclysm, a revolution of the genes) is related to that, in a sense; it deals with the loss of identity and background while living in America. ”An internal cataclysm” refers to how there’s an internal struggle in my life as I’m torn between preserving my Dominican heritage or adopting the American lifestyle and becoming whitewashed. ”A revolution of the genes” kind of plays on the fact that no one has a choice to keep themselves when they get here, unless they want to be looked at as a FOB.
Synthetics has to do with a few things:
1. How everyone is so fake all of the time.
2. How I force a lot of emotions because I’m so apathetic.
3. How I’m a Biology geek.
This was totally random. I have bad sleeping habits.
